Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

"Take me out to the ballgame.
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack.
I don't care if I never get back.
Root, root, root for the home team.
If they don't win, it's shame.
For it's one-two-three strikes you're out
At the old ball game!!"

In the seventh inning, fans get up and sing Jack Norworth's classic, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." I love the tradition of baseball--America's favorite sport! What's more American than baseball, anyway?

Baseball season is here and I personally love it!! My son is playing on two leagues. My daughter is playing softball. My youngest son is starting coach pitch and, of course, my husband is coaching two teams! For that, I love and appreciate him!

BYU's baseball coach asked Joe to pitch for the team the first year of our marriage and he turned it down--a lot of time away from the new wife. We have some misgivings for that decision.

We are honored to count Vernon Law, 1960 World Series Winner, Pirate Pitcher, and Cy Young Award Winner as a dear friend. In the photos above, he--one of the best pitchers in baseball history--spent an afternoon with our oldest son giving him a few pointers!! How awesome is that?!! We are grateful to him!

(Picture in Vernon's basement. He is in the back and center.)

The entire Law family has a dear place in our hearts. Vernon's son, Vance, is BYU's baseball coach who played for the Chicago Cubs for years before settling down in Provo. Vance is a super guy like his dad--not only great on the field, but great off the field and their wives are good women--the best of women--Groovy Moms!

If you are a baseball fan, be sure and pick up Vernon's newly published book, "Kiss It Good-Bye--The Mystery, the Mormon, and the Moral of the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates" by John Moody. Bill Mazeroski said of this book, it's "as close as you can get to being in the 1960 Pirate dugout." This makes a great gift for Father's Day. (Hint: I'm giving my dad an autographed copy!)

 Order Vernon's Book here.

Gosh! I love baseball!! It's a great sport and even better when great men play the sport like Vernon and Vance Law! They are examples to young men who love the game. They displayed moral courage throughout their careers in baseball. I admire that more than the strength of their arm! Take me out to the ballgame!
