I Believe in Pink by Audrey Hepburn

I believe in Manicures.
I believe in Overdressing.
I believe in Primping at leisure
and wearing Lipstick.
I believe in Pink. I believe that
Laughing is the best calorie burner.
I believe in kissing; Kissing a lot.
I believe in Being Strong
when everything seems to be going wrong.
I believe Happy Girls are the prettiest girls.
I believe tomorrow is another day, and
I believe in Miracles.

--Audrey Hepburn

Who knew that Hollywood Icon, Audrey Hepburn was such a sage?

Since my little "Fancy Nancy" has been seriously sick with severe allergies, I have thought a lot about Pink and Miracles, and Being Strong even when everything seems to be going wrong. Audrey's words swirl in my mind and I take courage from them.

It is so very difficult to watch a child suffer and worry about mysterious and serious medical problems. My youngest daughter we call Lu Lu has been covered in red hives head to foot and has had on and off swelling of the facial tissues including the lips, tongue, and eye lid as well as hands. She is an exuberant, fun loving girl who loves to be FANCY! But when faced with the possibility of a severe anaphylactic allergic reaction to something unknown, it's enough to turn your world upside down.

Instead of thinking about fun scarves, painted fingernails, and glittery shoes, we are thinking about epinephrine syringes, medical bracelets, Prednisone, and lots of pink Benadryl that takes a lot of spunk out of even the most spunky. It's hard to look FANCY covered in big, angry red spots and swollen lips, but Hayley will try, because she is strong, HAPPY, and believes in Miracles just like Audrey Hepburn.

I can not help but be incredibly proud of how responsible Lu Lu is being in regards to this new medical problem. She is prepared to give herself a shot in the thigh in the event that her throat begins to swell leading to her airway closing completely.  It's a scary thought...But sometimes we have to do HARD THINGS and be prepared for hard things!

I believe in PINK. I believe in Hayley!
